A PUBLIC COMMITMENT TO MAKE POLLUTERS PAY.
The Make Polluters Pay Parliamentary Pledge gives MPs a simple way to show they support one clear principle.
The biggest polluters should pay their fair share towards the costs of climate change.
Many MPs are unable to sign an Early Day Motion because of their parliamentary role, for example, ministers and some parliamentary office holders do not normally add their names to EDMs.
The Parliamentary Pledge gives every MP the opportunity to publicly support the principle that those who caused the climate crisis should help pay for the damage it has caused.
THE PLEDGE
"I pledge to push for the biggest polluters to pay their fair share towards the costs of climate change, costs that my constituents, and frontline communities across the globe, are already paying."
Why it matters
Climate change is already affecting every constituency. Families are paying more for food, energy and insurance. Communities are facing floods, extreme heat and other climate impacts.
At the same time, oil and gas giants continue to make enormous profits.
The costs of climate change should not continue to fall on families and taxpayers alone.
What MPs are supporting
By signing the pledge, MPs are supporting the principle that Government should:
Make the biggest polluters contribute more towards the costs of climate change
Ensure extraordinary fossil fuel profits are fairly taxed
Help fund climate resilience and clean energy in the UK
Support communities recovering from climate loss and damage, both in the UK and internationally
The pledge does not commit MPs to a particular Bill or tax proposal. Instead, it demonstrates support for the wider polluter pays principle and the need for stronger action.

GROWING SUPPORT
